Flood Mitigation Assistance Program
The Village of East Rockaway is sponsoring the Flood Mitigation Assistance Program in conjunction with the National Flood Insurance Program, a division of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. If your home is not livable after a flood event, the personal suffering of your family, may be your major loss. This program makes funds available to reimburse homeowners for up to 75% of the cost of implementing approved flood damage mitigation measures that reduce the losses due to repetitive flooding to their homes.
Approved mitigation measures may include relocation of heating or electrical systems above the base flood elevation. To be eligible to participate in this program homeowners must have a flood insurance policy covering the property with the National Flood Insurance Program.
Check with the Building Department on retrofitting your home. Superintendent Dennis McCabe has over twenty years of construction and code compliance experience and is a graduate of the Federal Emergency Management Institute's Program for Retrofitting Flood Prone Residential Structures. The ultimate goal is to significantly reduce or eliminate the potential of flood damage in a manner that is cost effective and acceptable to you in terms of appearance and livability.
